FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

WHY SHOULD I BUY PREMIUM STRINGS FOR MY BOW?
The reason to buy a premium string is they are simply made to a higher degree of manufacture quality. Peep rotation is eliminated and premium string companies guarantee this and will replace any string that doesn't meet that stipulation. They also perform better in a larger variety of climates and temperatures which is important for hunters and target shooter's who are traveling. The strings are also more durable and will last longer for regular shooters. Only two companies make what are considered premium strings, Winner's Choice and America's Best Bowstrings.

DOES THE OVERALL WEIGHT OF A BOW MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO SHOOTING?
The heavier the bow the steadier the bow will hold. This is very important for target shooters who want consistency between every shot. A heavier bow also helps control movement of the bow when shooting in the wind. But there is a fine line between a bow that is to heavy and one that is too light.

WHAT IS BRACE HEIGHT?
Brace height is the distance from the deepest point of the grip to the string at rest. Typically a shorter brace height will result in an increased power stroke and speed, but comes at the price of a bow that's less forgiving to shooter error and having harsher string slap.

WHAT IS A BACK TENSION?
Back tension is the act of squeezing your rhomboid muscles in the back to actuate the release. By using back tension you produce a more reliable and consistent release, creating a better follow through and eliminating the release method known as "punching"

SHOULD I USE THIN OR THICK ARROWS FOR HUNTING?
An arrow that is thick or thin does not make a large difference, any standard diameter arrow will work very well and is generally more durable. Arrow weight is by far more important, a heavier arrow produces more stored energy and will in some cases help make your bow quieter.

WHAT SPEED OF BOW AND ARROW SHOULD I BE HUNTING WITH?
For hunting purposes you should be using no more then 265fps to 275fps with any standard fixed blade broadheads. If using mechanical broadheads speed is no longer as important but for best results should use a heavy arrow.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIELD, FITA AND 3D TARGET SHOOTING?

FITA round is a form of target shooting competition used in international and world championship events, authorized by the Fédération Internationale de Tir à l’Arc (FITA), the world governing body of the sport. The round consists of 144 arrows, 36 at each of 4 distances. For men the distances are 90, 70, 50, and 30 metres (295, 230, 164, and 98 feet); for women they are 70, 60, 50, and 30 metres.

Field Archery courses have marked yardages. "Field archery is a game of shooting - not yardage estimation". The basic NFAA field round is made up of 28 targets. The round is two 14 targets units. There can be 28 targets one after the other, or you can have a 14 target course and shoot it twice to make the round. Each 14 target unit has the same shots, but not necessarily in the same order, on a 28 target field course. You shoot four arrows at each target, so you shoot a total of 112 arrows per field and hunter rounds.

3D Archery is a subset of field archery focusing on shooting at life-size models of game, and is popular with hunters. It is most common to see unmarked distances in 3D archery, as the goal is to accurately recreate a hunting environment for competition, albeit a more loosely organized form of competition than other types of field archery.

WHY DO OUTDOOR TARGET SHOOTERS USE THIN ARROWS?
Target shooters, shooting outdoors use small diameter arrows in order to reduce wind resistance when shooting at long distances out to 90m. Wind at any position on the field can affect the final impact of the arrow and can move arrows sometimes feet across a target.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VERIFIER LENS AND A CLARIFIER LENS?
Verifier lenses are like wearing a pair of prescription lenses and are generally used to focus the pins of your sight. The same can also be accomplished by reducing or enlarging the size of your peep. The clarifier lens is used to focus the target for the shooter.

SHOULD I USE A DROP AWAY REST FOR HUNTING?
Absolutely should, it is the only way to go for hunting. A reliable drop-away rest can be just as accurate as any target style arrow rest. The benefit to a drop away rest is they capture the arrow and allow the shooter some imperfections in their draw when excited or cold.

DOES SPEED MATTER FOR HUNTING OR TARGET SHOOTING?
Speed is very important for both hunting and target shooting. For hunting purposes a bow that is too slow will not provide enough stored energy even with a heavy arrow, which also produces more trajectory in the flight of the arrow. For target shooting, there are different speeds used for different games. In FITA and Field Target a heavier thinner arrow is used, while for 3D a lighter larger arrow is used to generate more speed.
